Gum Rubber Boot and Sleeve FAQ

What sizes can you make?
Any inside diameter from 1 inch up, any wall from 1/8 to 1/2 inch, any length up to 48 inches through the online builder. Need something longer than 48 inches? Ask us. We quote oversize boots every week.
What does hot vulcanized mean and why does it matter?
We join the seam with uncured rubber and cure it under heat and pressure, so the joint becomes one continuous piece as strong as the sheet around it. Cold-bonded (glued) seams are the number one failure point on cheap boots. Ours do not have one.
How fast will I get a quote?
Within 24 hours, and usually the same business day. Send the RFQ through the builder and it lands in our sales inbox immediately.
I only have the old part number. Can you match it?
Yes. Put the part number in the notes field and we will match the dimensions. We regularly build equivalents to MPParts, Vince Hagan, CEPI and other catalog boots.
Do you offer bulk pricing?
Yes. Multi-piece and blanket orders get bulk pricing, and we can hold stock for scheduled releases. Note your annual usage in the RFQ and we will quote both ways.
A few more worth knowing
Is heat vulcanized the same as hot vulcanized?
Yes. The trade uses both words for the same process, and you will see heat vulcanized on some catalogs and hot vulcanized on others. Either way the seam is cured under heat and pressure into one continuous piece of rubber. The thing to watch for is neither word: it is a cold-bonded or glued seam, which is a different and weaker joint.
How do I measure a boot I already have?
Measure across the inside of the opening for the ID, across the cut edge for the wall, and end to end for the length. If the boot is torn and out of round, measure the pipe or flange it slips over instead. That number is more reliable than a distorted part.
What is the trap with pipe sizes?
Pipe is named by nominal size and measured by something bigger. 8 inch pipe is 8.625 inches across the outside, 10 inch is 10.75, and 12 inch is 12.75. A boot named for the nominal size will not go over the pipe. Order by what the tape says.
Can you do materials other than gum rubber?
Yes. Pure gum rubber in tan 40D is the default because it handles abrasion and flex better than anything at the price. EPDM is available for heat and weather. FDA-grade compounds are available for food and feed contact. Choose Other in the builder and describe the service conditions, and we will recommend one.
How hot can gum rubber run?
Roughly 180 degrees Fahrenheit continuous. Above that, tell us the operating temperature in the notes and we will quote a different compound.
Do you ship, or is it pickup only?
Both. We ship anywhere in the country, and local plants are welcome to pick up at the shop in Englewood. Will-call hours and directions are at the bottom of this page.
What if I need something longer than 48 inches?
Type the length you actually need into the builder. It will flag the order as oversize and we will quote it. We build oversize boots every week. The 48 inch number is a builder convenience, not a shop limit.
